🔊 Audio System Update — v3.1
Audio Layers v3.1 builds on the v3 release with easier setup, more flexible zone shapes, improved announcement tools, and clearer Inspector guidance.
This update does not replace existing features. Voice Dampening Areas, Voice Zones, World Audio Layering, Boost Zones, and Microphones all remain compatible.
What Stayed the Same
Voice Dampening Areas are still fully supported for soft voice reduction, room bleed control, and subtle muffling.
Voice Zones still provide hard audio separation, so players in different layers cannot hear each other even when physically close.
World Audio Layering still lets music and ambience follow the listener’s current voice layer, including per-layer volumes and optional fades.
New in v3.1
Boost Zones and Box Zones now support any 3D Collider type.
You are no longer limited to box-shaped zones. Zones can now be shaped with:
- Box Colliders
- Sphere Colliders
- Capsule Colliders
- Mesh Colliders
- custom collider layouts
This makes it much easier to fit audio zones to real rooms, stages, curved spaces, hallways, booths, and irregular world geometry.
New Announcement / PA Options
Microphones now include an Announcement / PA System toggle.
When enabled, an active microphone can be heard across all voice layers instead of only the speaker’s current layer. This is ideal for:
- event announcements
- club-wide messages
- guided tours
- staff calls
- performances
- broadcast-style microphones
Boost Zones also include the same Announcement / PA System option.
When enabled, players standing inside that Boost Zone can be heard across all layers, making it useful for:
- stages
- DJ booths
- podiums
- presentation zones
- staff announcement areas
Improved Setup Experience
v3.1 adds clearer Inspector tooltips across the Audio Layers scripts, making setup easier directly inside Unity.
Tooltips now explain what each field does, including:
- voice layers
- zone priority
- audio profiles
- boost profiles
- occlusion masks
- microphones
- world audio emitters
- per-layer world audio volumes
- fade settings
The goal is to make the system easier to understand out of the box without needing to dig through documentation first.
Designed to Work Together
Audio Layers remains modular:
- Voice Zones for hard separation
- Dampening Areas for soft muffling
- Boost Zones for speaker emphasis
- Microphones for active speaking
- Announcement / PA mode for cross-layer broadcasts
- World Audio Layering for music and ambience per zone
Use only the parts you need, or combine everything for more advanced world audio design.
